Role Summary

If you are a consultant with excellent experience in sustainability in the built environment and / or the corporate sector, with an academic/technical background in asset management and / or environmental, social, governance (ESG), then we have a fantastic opportunity for you to join WSP India team supporting UK’s Sustainability & Climate Change (S&CC) Team remotely sitting in India.

Among numerous other services in our S&CC Team, we provide strategic sustainability and ESG consulting services, as well as designing lasting solutions in (inter alia) the Property & Buildings, Transportation & Infrastructure, Environment, Industry, Aviation, Resources and Power & Energy sectors.

In applying for this role, you will be expected to lead strategic and technical projects, as part of client engagement for our ESG work stream. Working with us will provide you with the opportunity to implement practical solutions across corporate sustainability and net zero, as well as ESG strategies, roadmaps and frameworks; to do this, you will be working with a variety of leading global clients. The role will be largely external facing and the successful candidate should be confident in leading projects and business development activity with an ability to identify cross-selling opportunities.

Ideally, you should have experience of working with corporations, including asset and property managers, and property investors with large and diverse portfolios. Additionally, you should be able to demonstrate excellent communication and project management skills, as well as having a basic knowledge of biodiversity, green buildings and wellbeing principles. Knowledge of existing buildings, understanding consumption trends and benchmarks (e.g. energy, carbon, water and waste) would be advantageous.

Financial/investment experience is desirable and exposure to GRESB, CRREM and other sustainability benchmarking schemes will be essential.


The successful applicant would be responsible for many of the following:

· Pro-actively engaging with clients to deliver a range of advisory services such as sustainability strategies, net zero carbon roadmaps, and ESG frameworks all in the context of portfolios of buildings and assets;

· Managing and delivering the reporting of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions;

· Reporting and benchmarking using industry frameworks including CRREM, EU, INREV Taxonomy, and SFDR;

· Undertaking GRESB Reporting;

· Managing / feeding into sustainable development and ESG frameworks for our corporate clients with the ability to articulate environmental, wellbeing, social value and governance perspectives;

· Taking our clients through project development and implementation journeys i.e. strategy, roadmaps, frameworks and annual reporting.

· Developing and managing action plans for our clients to be able to practically implement the advice we provide;

· Delivery of tasks on time and within budget, and assisting other project managers and directors to ensure that projects meet or exceed targets and deadlines;

· Liaising with, engaging and presenting to senior business leaders and clients;

· Supporting the professional development of junior colleagues, including line management opportunities, and;

· Organising events and identifying speaking opportunities to promote our services.

Key Competencies / Skills

Essential Skills

We would love to hear from you if you have these essential skills:

· Relevant degree and/or masters – e.g. in sustainability, environment, geography etc, or similar other qualifications or experience ranging from 8-14 years;

· Relevant experience, ideally with a consultancy or corporate background;

· Strong experience in developing ambitious yet achievable sustainability, net zero carbon and/or ESG strategies for buildings and portfolios;

· Experience of working with corporate clients, property investors, asset managers and/or an understanding of landlord and tenant relationships;

· Capability to support with GRESB submissions with exposure to CRREM, SFDR and the EU Taxonomy;

· Experience of developing and contributing to bids, and managing projects;

· Excellent research, analytical, writing and presentational skills;

· A Practitioner or Chartership status, or working towards Chartership (desirable but not essential), and;

· Personable character with an ability to foster good working relationships and excellent experience of managing projects with other individuals or small teams.
